Aaron Judge went 1-for-3 with a walk. Joey Gallo went 1-for-2 with a walk. The Yankees scored in the 8th and won the game 1-0. They are the first AL team to 20 wins.

Luis Severino took the mound against the Jays in game one of two. He lasted 4.2 innings, struck out eight, and gave up three runs. Giancarlo Stanton went 2-for-4 with a home run that tied the game at three. Aaron Judge went 2-for-5 with a walk-off home run in the 9th inning. The Yankees came back from behind and won 6-5.

The team started their road trip in Chicago to face the White Sox for four games. Luis Gil was called up as Rob Marinaccio was optioned. Gil will start game one. He will be followed by Gerrit Cole, Jordan Montgomery, and Nestor Cortes. I will cover what happened in game one in Monday’s post.

BOSTON RED SOX (11-20)

Garrett Whitlock pitched in the first game against the Braves. He lasted three innings, struck out five, and gave up three runs. The offense jumped early in the second inning by scoring six runs. Rafael Devers went 2-for-4. Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-5. Trevor Story went 2-for-5. The Sox won 9-4.

Nathan Eovaldi pitched 6.1 innings, struck out six, and gave up three runs. He just had one bad inning in the 3rd and kept it tied during the rest of his outing. J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4. Ryan Brasier was brought in for the 9th inning and gave up the game-winning home run to Orlando Arcia. The Sox lost 5-3.

The Sox head to Texas to face the Rangers. Nick Pivetta is scheduled to pitch in game one. It’s hopeful that Rich Hill returns from the COVID IL to take one of the games.

TAMPA BAY RAYS (19-13)

Jeffrey Springs started against the Angels. He lasted four innings, struck out four, and gave up three runs. Randy Arozarena hit his first home run of the season. Manuel Margot went 2-for-3. Wandy Franco went 3-for-5. The Rays lost 11-3.

We got the first one pitcher no-hitter of the season. Unfortunately for the Rays, they were on the losing end. Corey Kluber, who pitched a no-hitter last year with the Yankees, pitched three innings, struck out two, and gave up eight runs. The Rays lost 12-0.

Shane McClanahan pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out 11. Taylor Walls went 1-for-4. Kevin Kiermaier went 1-for-4 with a home run off of Shohei Ohtani. The Rays won 4-2.

After their west coast trip, the Rays head back home to face the Jays. They look to gain some ground on them in the standings. Drew Rasmussen is scheduled to pitch.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (17-15)

Yusei Kikuchi took the mound against the Yankees. He lasted 5.1 innings, struck out seven, and gave up two runs. George Springer went 2-for-4 with a home run in the first inning. Yimi Garcia gave up the game-tying home run for Stanton in the 6th inning. He was ejected for throwing at Josh Donaldson. which in my opinion, didn’t look intentional. The Jays scored two runs in the eighth to take the lead but lost 6-5 in the 9th.

Jose Berrios took the mound to try to avoid the 2-game sweep. He lasted 5.1 innings, struck out four, and was charged five runs. Bo Bichette went 3-for-5. Alejandro Kirk went 2-for-4. The Jays lost 5-3.

After the day off, the Jays head to Tampa to face the Rays. Kevin Gausman is scheduled to pitch.

OUTSIDE THE AL EAST

As mentioned earlier, the Angels are the owners of the first one pitcher no-hitter of the season. Reid Detmers pitched a complete game no-hitter and struck out two.

.@RDetmers only let one thing break his focus during his no-hitter: Anthony Rendon's lefty home run. "I couldn't help but get up and go shake his hand." @Angels | #MLBTonight pic.twitter.com/Xr7j1UBhce — MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) May 13, 2022
