BOSTON RED SOX (8-12)
Nathan Eovaldi took the mound for the Sox against the Jays. He pitched seven innings, struck out five, and gave up two runs via the home run. I strongly feel that he should have pitched the 8th innings with his pitch count being around 72. The excuse given after by acting manager, Will Venable, was that he didn’t want Nathan facing the top of the order again. The bottom of the order was due up on the 8th. Bobby Dalbec went 2-for-4. J.D. Martinez returned to the lineup and hit a double. Xander Bogaerts went 1-for-4. The Sox lost 6-2.
Nick Pivetta pitched 4.2 innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs. Christian Vazquez went 2-for-3 with a walk. Martinez went 1-for-5. Bogaerts went 3-for-5. The Sox bullpen couldn’t hold the lead in the 9th. The Sox lost 6-5 in the 10th inning.
Michael Wacha went six innings, struck out five, and gave up one run. Martinez went 2-for-4 and looked like his left abductor bothered again after his second hit. Bogaerts went 4-for-4. Rafael Devers went 2-for-5. The Sox won 7-1.

Bogaerts started with the day off but ended up pinch-hitting for Travis Shaw, who remains hitless this season. Martinez didn’t play the series finale and Alex Cora said they will be cautious with him. Kike Hernandez went 1-for-4. Trevor Story went 0-for-3. The Sox lost 1-0.

OUTSIDE THE AL EAST
During a game between the Mets and the Cardinals, benches cleared when a pitch was too close to Nolan Arenado’s liking. The Mets have been complaining about constantly getting hit by pitches this season. The day before, Pete Alonso was hit in the head. MLB gave Arenado a 2-game suspension, a 1-game suspension to Genesis Cabrera, and fined Jack Flaherty, Yoan Lopez, and Taijuan Walker.
